Emma's Morning At the Art Museum

Today Emma and I went to the museum to learn about the artist Tim Lewis. He carves sculptures out of stone and she got to make her own version of his unique artwork. This project was a multi step one and unfortunately we did not get to spend as much time as I wanted because I had to pick Adrienne up at Cosi (she had a girl scout overnight ) and be at Colin's basketball game by noon. Emma, next month I promise we'll spend more time at the museum and have a special lunch together!
Emma's finished piece of art. A valentine gift for her daddy. Here are the steps Emma took to make this:

Next, we hot glued the sculpture to the piece of wood and she glazed the sculpture to give it an "old timed" stone look.

Next she got her own block of "stone" to carve. After she figured out the shape she wanted to make she carved designs in it and used a wet sponge to smooth the edges.

First, Emma painted a piece of wood for the base of the sculpture.
