Becoming one with the wind...

I love teaching my class this semester at co-op. We are reading Caldecott Award winning books and doing activities based upon each book.
Last week we read the book The Little Island. After discussing the book in depth (they want to talk forever... it's so cute), we did a quick activity on seasons, and headed outside for some fun with scarves.
My little students turned into the "wind". They acted out a quiet wind, a howling wind, a whistling wind, a tornado forced wind and many more!
This group has a lot of energy and I try to get them outside each week if the weather cooperates for at least five to ten minutes.
Next week we will be reading Grandfathers Journey, making origami boats, and painting rocks to depict Japanese rock gardens.
Here is a list of all the books we have read so far this semester: The Lion And The Mouse, The House In The Night, Make Way For Ducklings, Arrow To The Sun, A Tree Is Nice, Owl Moon, The Giving Tree, and last weeks book The Little Island.
Looking forward to three more weeks with this great group of students!
