Homeschooling At It's Best

We have been home all week and it's been so nice! It sounds crazy but one of the biggest challenges with homeschooling is finding time to be home. January and February are the months that we can get a lot of our book work done so that when the weather breaks we can take advantage of being outside, participating in park programs and going on field trips. Anyway...today the kids did there math and language in the morning and when we were breaking for lunch I noticed Adrienne was in the sunroom with William showing him the snow and the birds in our backyard. I got a new bird feeder for Christmas that we put in our children's garden and it has been a popular place for these birds that tough it out here through the winter. I ran in with my camera as usual to get a shot of big sissy with William. Emma and Colin were right behind me wondering what all the excitement was about. We all hung out in the sunroom for a while watching the birds come and go from the feeder and then decided to get out our bird identification books. We read about birds in the winter, which birds live in what part of the country, which do not migrate and all sorts of other neat facts. They were so excited to try and figure out what kinds of birds these were that they took cameras outside to try and get the perfect shot (they scared the birds off in the process but that's o.k.). I love that this is what they wanted to do on their break from schoolwork! It was a great day and we can't wait to see who flies in to pay us a visit tomorrow!
