Making Slime and More...

We had a great field trip to The Works Museum today for a workshop titled "Club Mess: Polymers And The Science Of Goo".
And the title rings true!! The kids got a little messy and made some seriously gooey substances. They learned the difference between natural and synthetic polymers and discussed the characteristics of both.
But...The highlight of the class was when they got to make their own "slime". They just thought this was so cool! They all measured how long their slime would stretch and I believe Alexa's was the record at over six feet!
After making the slime they broke off into stations where they worked with playdoh, silly putty, cornstarch and water, and even did an experiment to see how much water a baby diaper would hold. I really enjoyed taking pictures of all this hands-on learning but more than anything I loved seeing the smiles on their faces and laughter in their voices during this amazing class!
The adults that work at this museum truly put so much effort into these classes !
They even gave us a recipe for homemade plastic made out of milk! I think that could be a future post.... The Table of Fun

Waiting for class to begin!

We have a million questions!

Emma and Josie measuring their slime.

Claire enjoyed experimenting with Silly Putty.

BFF's Anna and Adrienne

Colin is ready to get slimed!

Adrienne's Slime Ring.

Alexa's mini slime hat

Anna was the star of the show when she got up in front on the class and braved this experiment!

Playing with cornstarch and water.

Chas isn't so sure about this stuff.

Alexa was at this station forever. She loved it!

This is right up these boys alley! It was just messy enough for them.
