Our Maple Syrup Hike

This was a great field trip!
We read so many books about the history of maple syrup; so having such a great guide and getting to see how everything worked was great closure to our mini unit study!
We drove to Dawes Arboretum which is just beautiful! Upon arrival we met up with our co-op friends and took a short hike through the woods stopping along the way to learn about the history of maple syrup! We ended at a little log cabin that originally belonged to the owner of the property. There, the kids got to see how the syrup was made, and try a sample. Next, we hiked to the nature center which was just so cute. We saw some snakes and turtles and did a little bird watching.
The weather was gorgeous and it made us all even more excited for Spring! The kids and I are ready for more outdoor field trips, park days and lots and lots of SUNSHINE!

I have a car full of fun!!!
Our gang is ready to head out and enjoy some fresh air and much needed sunshine!

This is Colin trying to talk me into going off the trail into the woods. This guy is ALWAYS trying to talk me into something!!

Adrienne and Alexa trying some maple syrup. And this is not Aunt Jemima! The real thing tastes just a LITTLE different.

Claire was checking out how much sap this tree had made.

My personal favorite picture of the day! Emma and Katie had so much fun together!

Emma was so cute! She had to look at EVERY tree!

Claire REALLY wanted her picture with Adrienne! (so Holly make sure you show this to her!!)

In the nature center Claire came face to face with a praying mantis and...

Abby, Katie and Emma got a little goofy!

Colin and Nickolas were busy building with Styrofoam. These boys have got to get together with their Lego's!

More creating! Colin is pretty serious about this!

They had an amazing bird watching area at the nature center and Katie and Emma loved it. Here they are with their binoculars checking out the bright red cardinal they spotted.
