Homeschoolers Vs. School Groups

It was going to be a beautiful day and I thought maybe it wouldn't be too crowded! I was wrong and annoyed! The homeschooling lifestyle has made me spoiled and has made me HATE crowds! My thought is "why go now when we can go when school is in session"!
Anyway, I don't want to complain too much because we did have a great time. The kids had fun and it was nice to chat with fellow moms!
Cris, Carla, Laura, Megan and Jodi: Thanks for meeting us there! Let's try again the week before schools out and maybe there won't be as many field trips??? And we can see that baby elephant without the wait.
Carla: We are looking forward to getting more involved with the new home school classes the zoo will be offering in the fall.
Angi, Margot, Holly, Amanda: We missed you guys! Hope you can come next time!
Our gang (minus a few)! I think I cut a couple kids out of my picture, oops!
Look who fell asleep on the way there.

William found a turtle.

Alexa made a friend.

One of Colin's favorites, the sun bear.

William was obsessed with watching this tiger pace back and forth, he could have stood there all day.

Adrienne and Tana, (what was Angi saying about organic boy repellent??) Carla, we may need some!
Colin and Kyle frog hunting. They found a few big ones!

Habitat Hollow is still one of our favorite spots.

I had to get Colin's picture in front of the frog!

A few thoughts...

Your title cracked me up! It does start to feel that way, doesn't it? I feel like they take over all of our places in the summertime and we can't go back until the fall...

I hate crowds too. I missed you guys but am SO happy I was not amongst the field trippers. They make me grouchy and itchy :)

Did William get in a friggin playground tangle or what? He looks beat up! (Is this still from the accident the other day? SHEESH!)

Tana is cracking me up with those shades and her girl pals!

Carla can make stuff. Ask her to whip up a batch of the boy repellant. Give me some for Chas. (Ack, that sounded bad! Not that he likes boys :) but the girls ARE awful cute these days...)
It can't hurt to double coat, right?

And where, pray tell, can you frog hunt at the zoo???

I'm in on the zoo classes too, esp if they indeed revamp them for the Olders.

BTW, no email in my box re: butterflies.

Have a great weekend! Hope the games all go "smashingly" :)

What a fun outing! The kids look like they had a great time, and your grubby little baby boy is absolutely adorable! I agree with Angi -- Tana's fabulous shades are great!

Can you share where you buy your caterpillars? Is there a place you'd recommend? My kids would LOVE this but I've never shopped for caterpillars before :)

Are they revamping the zoo classes for the Olders? Angi, do you have the scoop? My littler kids like the zoo classes, but we found the classes to be geared for the younger kids, so my older 2 were somewhat bored.

Oops, I should introduce myself...I'm Sheri, local homeschooling mama, came via Angi's fab & fun blog :)

Hi Sheri,

Here is the link that we bought our catepillars from http://insectlore.stores.yahoo.net/
I bought the $25.00 set that includes the pavillion. All the instructions are included. You can also buy them at the Franklin Park Conservatory.
If I have time I am going to try and post the butterfly books we have been reading, and some cute crafts to go along with this little "unit study".
About the zoo classes, I spoke with the lady in charge of the homeschool classes when we were there the other day and she indicated that they are going to have classes especially for the older kids. My daughter is 11 and she was bored in the class we took this year so hopefully next year will be better.
Thank you for visiting my blog!
Let me know if you have any other questions about the catepillars. Your kids are going to love watching the transformation (I am still amazed by it!)

Thank you so much for the info! The price is really reasonable, too -- I can't wait to try this and I am sure the kids will love it.

I have been a lurker here for some time (sorry! i should have shouted out sooner). I lurk over at Carla's and Angi's too -- I always have good intentions about commenting, but usually have a nursing baby on my lap and can't nurse and peck at the same time :) I really enjoy your blog, your kids are gorgeous and you look like a fun-lovin' family!

Despite the crowds, I am glad we all went and the kids got to hang out a bit. And alteast there is something on MY side of town!! :) June sounds good, if we see school buses we will just head to Graeter's right up the street. :)

Thanks for inviting us to go along, Jenny! We had a great time! I did the same thing last year...went to the zoo at the end of the school year and it was packed. You'd think I'd remember that lol ;)
