Here are some things we did at our first meeting: We started by sitting in a circle, getting to know a little about one another, and talking about the way that the meetings will run.
Emma and Sarah held up the kaper chart (thank you so much for making this Amy!!). We explained that each girl will have certain responsibilities at the meeting. The girls were so thrilled and couldn't wait to get their "assignments".
We walked the girls through the flag ceremony, said the pledge of allegiance and the girl scout promise.
The girls had several crafts to do. If you know me, you know this will be a crafty troop :)
In order to help them learn the girl scout promise they cut our their hands, folded their thumb and pinkie down so that three fingers were raised and glued that onto paper next to a copy of the promise that they also cut out. It may take a couple of meetings for the girls to get going on all of these new things but they are off to an excellent start!!!
Their most favorite thing (besides snack time) was to make these bracelets. Cathy had this great idea to make friendship bracelets with the colors of the daisy petals that they will be earning. Each time they put each color bead onto the bracelet we talked about what the color represented and gave some examples of activities that we might do in order to earn that petal. Example: magenta represents respecting authority so next month we will tour the fire station in Pickerington and learn about the firefighters, and fire safety.
We ended the meeting with our Daisy Ring. We sang some songs and taught the girls about how to make a daisy ring with their friends.
After the meeting was over the girls went outside to play and get their pictures taken for a frame they had made earlier in the meeting. Then we presented them with a group of Daisy flowers. They had to figure out how to distribute them evenly amongst themselves so that each girl had the same amount to take home.
