Nature's Own Paradise

And that is just what Kiawah Island is. If you are a nature lover (like we are) you will not only appreciate the wildlife here but will fall in love with the peaceful, serene, feel that the island has.
There really is no other place like it if you really want to get away from the "real world" and feel like you are going back in time. I tried to photograph some of the things we saw but missed some great opportunities. Here are a few things my camera didn't catch: two baby deer nursing from their mother, a manatee right below us on a pier swimming out to sea, a tree covered in about 100 white egret birds, huge fish"Flying" about five feet out of the water. What can I say my reflexes aren't what they used to be and... well sometimes you just need to enjoy the moment and not worry about getting the shot.
And, I DID capture a few neat things...
The first few pictures are from the nature center on the island which is really nice. They offer workshops, camps, and lots of fun things for the kids. We didn't participate in anything this time because we were too busy with the condo but next time this homeschooling mama will be signing up!! Too many neat learning opportunities to miss out on.

Look at the size of that skull. It was some kind of whale.
Love the natural "feel" of the beach. And yes, it was this deserted! We had the whole place to ourselves.
We found this the first day we got there. There were so many shells because of the storms up north. We lucked out!

We saw lots of horseshoe crabs.

These starfish were so cool. We actually saw them "walk" around.

What are they looking at??

Oh MY!!! There were tons of alligators. We got pretty close to them on some of the bike trails. Colin and William loved it! The girls and I were a little freaked out.

That is exactly what Folly looks like, deserted! It is the best to have all that beach to ourselves.
